There are many different business models in the insurance world, but distribution methods generally boil down to three distinct categories:

• Direct
• Captive
• Independent (this is us!)

Direct carriers typically don’t have an agent that represents you, and work directly with the consumer. The consumer usually has to contact the company for a quote, provide their information, and choose their own insurance coverages. In a claims situation, the customer is their own advocate and works directly with the company. I hope that you’re knowledgeable on insurance coverages if you choose to go this route!

Captive agents work with one company to sell insurance products. The agent is available to quote you with one company, and if you are not eligible or the price is too high then you will need to look elsewhere. The agent is available to help guide you through product selection, advise on the claims process, and generally be there for you for your insurance needs.

Independent agents work with several different companies to sell insurance. This means that if you are not eligible, non-renewed or cancelled, or if your price gets to be too high, we have options! We work as your advisor and advocate through the buying process and throughout the life of the policy. You don’t need to start a new relationship with a new agent if your needs don’t fit.
